Component-ware for Autonomic Supervision Services The CASCADAS Approach

چکیده
This paper describes two complementary mechanisms for the supervision of large scale and highly distr ibuted systems structured as a cloud of autonomic computing components. The fi rst one is based on the creation of supervision pervasions, for the supervision of clusters of components (i.e., aggregates structurally organized through one or several contracts) implementing specific services in accordance to service-specific management policies. This mechanism is designed as a supplementary service that can be requested by operational components and is structured as an ensemble of self-contained objects that implement an autonomic control loop, which does not require any a priori knowledge on the structure of the supervised system. The second mechanism promotes supervision logic embedded in the autonomic components, which exploit autonomic features and cooperate through dedicated protocols over self-organized overlay networks; this mechanism is suitable for supervising infrastructural (service-independent) functions of autonomic components, and thei r aggregates. The main contribution of the paper is to define those two mechanisms and to shown that they are complementary, and can be combined to achieve cross-layer supervision.

Wireless sensor networks can be a very useful technology for monitoring remote and hostile environments. In this paper, we firstly report on our experience with landslide monitoring, and analyze the issues and the challenges we had to face in programming and deploying a suitable and useful wireless sensor network infrastructure. Following, we discuss how, within the CASCADAS project, we are con...

The work reported in this paper proposes Swarm-Array computing, a novel technique inspired by swarm robotics, and built on the foundations of autonomic and parallel computing. The approach aims to apply autonomic computing constructs to parallel computing systems and in effect achieve the self-ware objectives that describe self-managing systems. The constitution of swarm-array computing compris...
متن کاملAn Autonomic Web Services Environment Using a Reflective and Database-oriented Approach
The growing complexity of Web service platforms and their dynamically varying workloads make manually managing their performance a tough and time consuming task. Autonomic computing systems that are self-configuring and self-managing have emerged as a promising approach to dealing with this increasing complexity. In this paper we propose a framework for an Autonomic Web Services Environment (AW...
